Welcome to the ESIAP Docubase that gives you a new way of working more efficiently in a virtual community.

What is ESIAP Docubase?

This docubase has been developed by UNESCWA (The Economic and Social Commission for West Asia) as one of the activities related to the development account project “Strengthening National Capacities in Environment Statistics, Indicators and Accounts in support of progress toward achieving the internationally agreed development goals in the ESCWA and ECLAC Regions” in order to increase the capacities of Member States in the collection, coverage, dissemination and exchange of reliable, timely and comparable environment statistics, indicator and accounts through an integrated environment and economic development.

The docubase is a content management system based on a documentary approach. Documents are described with fields and users can process research in various ways. Full text, title words, index, authors, etc. This docubase is accessible to any user on the website. The aim of the docubase is to produce, distribute and update a database and expertbase on environment information.

The objective of the archive is to make publications on environmental statistics, indicator and accounts and related themes available to the Arab region and interested groups. The archive covers both methodological publications, published by international agencies, NSOs, academia and NGOs, as well as country practices in Arabic, and English. This facilitates the work of statisticians, researchers and practitioners working on the collection, development and implementation of environment statistics, indicators and accounts or wanting to investigate how other countries are implementing specific aspects. This will also help disseminate the work on environmental-economic accounts and stimulate others with an interest in this topic.

The archive contains approximately 100 publications. Countries, organizations and individual experts are invited to send their publications related environment statistics, indicators and accounts to esiap@un.org for possible inclusion in the archive.

To facilitate the search, all publications are classified according to a predefined set of keywords, in addition to the country they refer to. The archive can be accessed either by keyword or by country.

Publications have mostly been obtained from publicly accessible websites or directly from the authors/publishers, or from reports to meetings that ESCWA organized.. Special care has been given not to infringe copyright. Please contact us if you think that publications need to be removed from the archive because of copyright agreements.

ESIAP Docubase Utilities

ESIAP Docubase is an extranet tool that enables the interested community in Environment Statistics, Indicators and Accounts (e.g. committee, working group, project group etc.) spread across the Arab region and other regions and to maintain a private space on the Internet where they can share information, documents, participate in discussion forum and benefit from various other functionalities.

Such a private space is called a ‘ESIAP Net’.

The access and navigation in this virtual space is done via any Internet browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer), assuming you have been given a User-id and Password to enter your Interest Group. Your access rights to a Interest Group, and hence the services and functionalities made available to you, is based on predefined and customized user profiles called Profiles.

What you need to access:

• A connection to Internet is of course a key prerequisite to access the network
• A Browser such as Netscape, Internet Explorer or Firefox.
• An e-mail address
• The Web address (URL) of the ESIAP Net homepage
• A User Id and Password to access your Interest Group
